Musictheory.net has a variety of lessons and games to help you learn about music. I have set up a few simple games for you to try, but feel free to explore different areas of the website! This site is easy to use and doesn't require Flash Player, so should be accessible to more families. Once you have completed each exercise, you can either play again or create a verification code* and email it to me so that I can add it to your music mark!
*To create a verification code, click "View Report", then type your name into the text box and click "Sign Report". A code will appear. Click on "Copy Link", then paste it into an email and send it to me at [email protected]
I have sent copies of Rhythm Bingo cards to Grade 3 students so that we can practice reading and performing rhythms together! Each day I will be posting a new bingo game - if you get 5 squares in a row (up, down or diagonally), send me a photo of your bingo card and I'll add you to our list of winners! If you would prefer to receive a digital copy, please email me and I'll make sure you receive one.
Chrome Music Lab is a website that makes learning music more accessible through fun, hands-on experiments. Explore the different links and have fun listening to and creating your own music!
The K - 2 students have been using Music Madness games to learn about pitch, rhythms, instruments and musical terms. The website can be a little slow to load the main menu, but if you are able to wait for a minute or two, it should work for you! My favourite games are "Galactic Goonies" and "Percussion Penguins", but I'm not a big fan of "Dunk The Teacher" (boo!). Have fun!
Please note: you will need to log in as a student. The password for May is giraffe and the password for June is banana.
Practice your note-reading skills by playing "Name That Note"! There are three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Start at the beginner level and move up if you can! Most students will be more familiar with notes on the treble staff, but if you play the trombone or euphonium, select "bass clef" from the main menu. The game does require Adobe Flash in order to run. If you need a non-Flash game, try the games at Musictheory.net instead (see above). Have fun!
All the K - 6 music resources you need in one place! This website is continually being updated by the Lord Selkirk School Division music teachers. Check back often!
